^w^ Some species of shark are popular with sport fishermen.  Mako sharks are particularly popular because of their fighting spirit and acrobatic leaps out of the water.

^w^ Sport fishing charters are no longer able to promise an exciting catch because fewer sharks are sighted, and those that are seen are smaller than in the past.

^w^ Shark fishing tournaments limit the number, species, and size of sharks that can be taken.  

^w^ Some tournaments provide the thrill of sport competition but no sharks are killed.  These `catch, tag, and release tournaments` are becoming popular with fishermen concerned about the declining numbers of sharks.
